Village Court

Village Court is the judicial branch of our Village government. The Village Justice is the only other elected position in the Village of Massapequa Park other than the Mayor and Board of Trustees. The Justice is elected at-large to a four-year term. The Mayor, with the approval of the Board of Trustees, appoints a local attorney as Acting Village Justice to serve in the absence of the Justice.

The Village also has a Village Prosecutor who prosecutes all cases. The Mayor appoints the Village Prosecutor.

The Court has jurisdiction over all violations pertaining to New York State Vehicle & Traffic Law and Village Code. The Justice Court handles tickets issued by the Nassau County Police Department for violations of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law as well as violations of Village parking and traffic laws, ordinances, rules and regulations. In addition, the Justice Court handles violations issued by the Village staff relating to building and zoning matter. Clerk to the Justice assists the Justice and handles all court dates, mail and fines received on summonses.

Arraignments are typically held on the first and third Tuesday evenings at 8 PM in Village Hall. Court Trials are held one Friday morning per month. See the Justice Court Calendar 2017 or 2018 for specific dates.
