There are special facilities throughout the Village business districts and other areas including parking, telephone and curb ramps. Village Hall and the Community Center have special entrance ramps, parking and rest room facilities. Special parking permits are available in Mineola. (Call 571-3417) There is a fine of up to $250.00 for anyone abusing this parking privilege.
Youth Environmental Services, Inc. (Y.E.S.) is a non-profit community based agency, funded by the Nassau County Board and New York State Division for Youth. The following services of this agency are located at 30 Broadway in Massapequa.
- Job Placement Bureau - Through close cooperation with the community and local merchants, vocational counselors are able to offer help in securing part-time and full-time jobs for youth aged 16-21.
- Outreach Program - Outreach workers act as liaisons between the youth and their families, schools, personnel in law enforcement agencies and juvenile and criminal justice agencies.
- Speakers Bureau - Speakers are available to visit schools and groups. Discussions include drug/alcohol use, child abuse, adolescence, communications and other topics.
- Individual and Family Counseling - Counseling by skilled professionals is provided to those who want someone to talk with, or who may be experiencing any type of conflict, crisis or problem.
- Walk-In Center - This is located at 30 Broadway, upstairs, at the corner of New York Ave. and Broadway in Massapequa. Information and referrals are available in areas including family problems, legal matters, birth control, housing, drugs, VD, school and personal problems. All discussions are confidential. Fees may be charged for some services. The center is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the phone numbers are 799-3203 or 799-3000. Evening hours are available Monday through Thursday on prior request.
More than just selling stamps, the U. S. Postal Services offices in Massapequa Park can certify, register and insure mail, send packages by either Express Mail, Priority Mail or Parcel Post, as well as the routine First, Second and Third Class Mail. The Post Offices also offer C.O.D., Post Office Boxes, Forwarding and Hold Mail Services. The main Post Office in the Southgate Shopping Center has lobby hours from 5:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday and 5:30 AM to 4:30 PM on Saturday for box holders, mail deposit and vending machine transactions. The All-Service Counters are open from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday and 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Saturday. There is a branch office on Park Blvd. on Park Blvd. just north of Front Street that is open from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday and 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Saturday.
